CUMNOR LOSE IN FINAL ON REGIONAL FINALS DAY

Cumnor U13's excellent run in the ECB U13 cup ended yesterday afternoon when they were beaten in the final by Worcs. champions, Old Elizabethans.

In the morning's game, which started just as we to got the ground, we were up against reigning champions and a very strong (Large) looking Wolverhampton side.  We got off to a solid start with Harry Ackland (31 not out) and Max Mannering (31 not out) showing the way, up against some excellent bowling we managed to score 104 all out off of the last ball...Then came the fireworks.......Max Mannering (4-0-17-3)  and Sulamein Hussein (4-1-7-0) had Wolverhampton on the ropes at 39/4 and 54/7 but they dug deep and entered the last over 13 to win....Up stepped Archie Wimborne -  we conceded  10 off of the first 3 balls of the over and then he bowled  two dot balls....LAST BALL ...one needed to tie and Archie bowled an unplayable delivery which hit middle and leg and sent the bails flying, the stunned home supporters could only stand and watch as there began another pitch invasion the likes of which not seen since, well,  the last time we did a pitch invasion....all very exciting. Sarah Wimborne had to find the bar to have a drink to clam her nerves !! Lunch was taken and then it was onto the final..

Old Elizbethans won the toss and chose to bat....5 balls later they were 1 for 2 as the devilish spin of Max Mannnering (4-0-11-3) again worked its magic.  The team were made of strong stuff  though and although being 20/3 and 24/4 managed to hit their way out of trouble and score an imposing 129.

Cumnor got off to their usual impressive start with Harry Ackland (31 not out) and Callum Russell (30 not out) setting the tone for a fantastic run chase putting on 51 runs, but alas, it wasn't to be, nobody after that scored any runs and our innings closed on 73 all out.

A great day and signs of greater things to come over the next few seasons, a wonderful team spirit has developed and you all worked so well together doing yourselves proud, as well as The Club, we are all very proud of you.

Thanks to Roy P for scoring, Fod, Westy (little and large) for supporting, Trevor for your inspirational team talks and the mums and dads for all your help.

  • CUMNOR stormed into the regional finals of the national under 13 competition with a 65-run win over Leamington. Cumnor posted a challenging 135-4 from their 20 overs, after openers Callum Russell and Harry Ackland put on 85 for the first wicket. In reply, Max Mannering took 4-19 as Leamington were shot out for 70.

Cumnor travel to Wolverhampton on Tuesday for the regional finals.

CUMNOR U13 LIFT RON MAUDESLEY TROPHY !!!!!!!!!!!

Cumnor U13 had a day to remember at sun-baked B&NO CC today as they lifted the Ron Maudelsy Trophy on Finals Day....

In the semi-final - Cumnor were drawn against local rivals Freeland. Cumnor batted first and struggled against some excellent fielding and bowling..Only Max Mannering really got going, knocking 24 in quick time, Cumnors innings closed on 71 all out.  After a stern talking to at the break, (Trevor Russell) Cumnor bowled and fielded like the 'mad dogs' we asked them to and soon had Freeland reeling at 4 for 4 and 9 for 6.. Freeland couldn't recover and were shot out much to the pleasure of the packed galleries for a paltry 26...

Only 4 bowlers used, Hussein 4/-/11/3....Mannering 4/4/0/3 (3 wickets for no runs!!) Wimborne 2/-/3/1 and Louis Hampden 1.5/-/9/2...A great reply - everybody stepped up to the plate.....

Onto the final.............Oxford won the toss and batted first and got off to a flyer...35 runs were scored off the first 4 overs without loss...a few bowling changes changed all of that with Archie Wimborne (3.2/-/13/4) and Harry Ackland (4/2/6/3) ripping the heart of the oxford innings - their innings closed on 81 all out, with Hampden, Mannering and Hussein all bowling well.

Ackland and Russell opened for Cumnor, but with the early departure of Harry and Jamie Cox it was left to Callum Russell (30 n.o.) max (14) and Amir Younis (10) to get us close to the Oxford total... The 20 th over stared with Cumnor needing 2 to win with 7 wickets down and it took 'the shot of the day' from Sulamein Hussein, a beautiful straight drive, all along the ground for 4 to secure victory..  There then followed a pitch invasion, the like of which not seen since the play off final victory at the Kassam Stadium in May...

A wonderful end to a great day and a thoroughly deserved victory - as Paul salway said, the best 4 teams were there on the day (out of 34) and the best team won...so well done to everybody today - lets build on this now....and get stronger...well done to all boys - a real team effort - well done and thanks to all supporting parents and a final word of thanks to Trevor Russell for his inspirational team talks - they really worked Trevor.

 Thank you and well done..

 David

 QTR FINAL RON MAUDSELEY TROPHY

SHIPTON U WHYCHWOOD V CUMNOR

Cumnor powered their way thru to finals day with an impressive performance against a below strength Shipton side.

Cumnor got off to their usual quick fire start with inform batsmen Callum Russell hitting another undefeated 30 (current average 90 !!). no.3 bat Jamie Cox's 31 (n.o.) included 6 boundaries whilst the last 3 balls Archie Wimborne faced (34 no.) were all despatched over the ropes for 6's...Nick Doll and Seb Evans pushed the score along at the end, Cumnors innings closing on 150 for 3...

as in true Cumnor style, the plan was to give everybody a bowl...indeed Amir Younis was next on but Shiptons batsmen never looked like to getting to grips with some very tight bowling...New IPL signing (!!)

Sulamein Hussein lbowled very accurately with wickets coming from Nick Doll (2-0-10-1)  Billy Nunn          (2-0-19-1)  Max Mannering  ( 4-1-9-2)  and Seb Evans (2.4-0-4-3)  - there were the usual couple of run outs and another fine stumping from Callum..Shiptons ended up 71 all out...

An excellent, all round, team performance, well done all. Only 7 extras conceded. Much better.
