The youngest players and those new to the game will play 'Kwik Cricket', learning basic technique using a soft ball. Sessions will always include a variety of coaching and match type activities with the emphasis on enjoyment. Players will be grouped appropriately according to their stage of development. Older players will be introduced to hardball practice and matches and the balance of the sessions will move progressively towards technical coaching in specific areas.

The club offers unrivalled opportunity for players to progress through our youth programme into adult cricket via the Sunday 'youth development' squad and the Saturday league teams. With four Cherwell league teams playing from division 9 to the top of division 1 there is a clear route to progress to the highest levels.  Two 17 year olds, Alex Kidd and Mark Haigh played successfully in the top division of the Cherwell league, whilst others such as James Lee, George Glew and Edward Down are not far behind having performed well for the Cumnor CC 2nd X1

During the season we will identify and nominate players for the OCB and county and District assessment process and additional coaching will be provided to those players to prpeare them for these assessments.  In 2009 Will Polito [u10] Max Mannering and Archie Wimbourne [u12], Miles Hammond [u13], Jack Metcalfe [u16 & u17] and Mark Haigh [u17] all performed well at county level and a  record number of Cumnor players are receiving coaching this winter with the District and County squads. Two players have been nominated for trials with Northamptonshire CCC and one 16 year old is on the ECB's emerging player programme.

Bowling against England.

A report by Miles Hammond July 2010

Richard Howitt my master in charge of cricket gave my dad a ring on the weekend before the day that I was to bowl against the England One-Day squad. My dad only let me know on the Wednesday, two days before the event. At this point I really doubted the truth of the fact that I would be bowling against the likes of Ian Bell or Jonathan Trott. I was certain of my dad was kidding, so I hurriedly rushed to Mr. Howitt and pressed him for the truth. I could not believe my luck.  So I was to be at Bristol at 2.00 pm for warm up’s and then to bowl at England at 2.30. It was typical that the team was late, the nerves built up big time. Finally we got to bowl at them, first up was Stuart Broad. First two balls were convincingly smoked through the covers, but from then on nothing special would happen. Then, just my luck, Luke Wright walks confidently into the net; he plays it out carefully, before miss hitting me and Jack Taylor into the stands. Then Tim Bresnan is in. He too plays as normal before one spins a bit; he tries to cut it fine, but chops it onto his stumps. My dream has come true. But after that he didn’t look in much trouble. I only bowled a couple of balls to Treadwell. Then my favorite batsman, Ian Bell, came to the crease in my net. The nerves were flowing. At first he played carefully before missing two attempted sweeps and then chipping one high into the midwicket area!! Then Keiswetter came in, and as we all know he is very attacking, he started explosively before skewing a lofted drive, and top edging a sweep. The final batter, Jonathan Trott, came to the crease.  I only really bowled an over at him which consisted of him playing normally with no big shots. This day was an incredible experience, which I will never forget, I have learnt so much. I bowled with many bowlers from Gloucester and other counties, and they included Jack Taylor, Ben Taylor, Kieran Smith, David Payne and Michael Beard.
